Abstract

Learning interaction during the information retrieval process is an integral concept, including the interactions between user and search system(U-S),search engine result page(U-SERP),search content(U-C),other users(U-U),and so on. Collaborative search further increases the complexity of the learning interaction. This paper designs an information search experiment to explore the effects of social relationships and collaborative efficiency(or,collaborative effectiveness) on users' learning interaction, thus laying a foundation for understanding users' collaborative learning mechanism. Using two-factor ANOVA,Mann-Whitney U nonparametric tests and qualitative analysis, this paper comprehensively analyses the data generated in the experiment. The study shows:Social relationship type does not affect the learning interaction in collaborative search;Collaborative effectiveness has a main effect on the depth of web links, the number of knowledge discussions, and the amount of knowledge sharing among users;Social relationship type and collaborative effectiveness have an interaction effect on the average browsing time of users. The average browsing time of the friend group is higher than that of the stranger group at the high level of collaborative effectiveness, while the average browsing time of the stranger group is higher than that of the friend group at the low level of collaborative effectiveness. The study can encourage information seeking users to attach importance to collaborative learning, and serve as a reference for designing collaborative information retrieval systems to support better learning experience.
